Imagine a lights-out, automated block foam plant, where the intelligent machinery can prepare mixtures, monitor itself and modify the formulation in real time to ensure product specification is met. This may seem like a fantasy in 2020, but we could be a lot closer to it by the time we get to 2030 if two of the leading players in this area are right. A number of hurdles must be overcome before it becomes a reality, but it might just happen. It is like trying to explain a smart phone to someone who has only used a 1990s Nokia - it's hard, but once they see it, it is easy.
