Trophoblast Research is a record of the annual meetings of the International Federation of Placenta Associations (IFPA). the present volume, "Models for molecular understanding of placental development and associated disorders," reports on IFPA Meeting 2013 at Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. It comprises fifteen review articles based on plenary presentations and three workshop reports. The meeting was hosted by the Placental Association of the Americas (PAA). Thanks are due to Dr. Isabella Caniggia and her colleagues for developing an exciting programme and hosting the meeting in a beautiful setting. The high quality of the presentations will be apparent from the papers published in this volume.With this issue we welcome two new members of the Editorial Board: Dr. Mandi de Mestre, The Royal Veterinary College, London and North Mymms, UK, and Dr. Kazuhiko Ino, Wakayama Medical University, Japan.
