The dengue infection is a viral infection presenting with high fever accompanied with many hematological changes (positive tourniquet test, thrombocytopenia and atypical lymphocytosis) [1]. This serious infection can result in a bleeding episode and this can result in death [2]. In the management of dengue, it is required to monitor for a possible hemorrhagic episode. Early detection and prompt fluid replacement therapy is the key process for managing the severe dengue case [1]. Following up of the patient in dengue hemorrhagic fever seems to be a difficult issue. The standard laboratory investigation is usually limited. Based on a standard automated complete blood count (GBC), the finding of thrombocytopenia is common, however, this is usually too late for early diagnosis. How to use other CBC parameters to predict the hemorrhagic episode seems to a topic to be discussed. Here, the author discusses the possibility of using a platelet distribulogram in automated CBC in following up and early detection of a hemorrhagic episode in dengue infection.
