With service scheduled to begin first forcommunications satellite (CS) broadcasts, then broadcast satellite (BS) and finally terrestrial broadcasts, cable television broadcasters are also expected to begin the shift to digital broadcasting. We have developed and launched a CS/C transmodulationsystem for digital cable television. This CS/C transmodulation system does not require the cable television company to switch limited reception arrangements or rearrange programming in the transport stream (TS). Consequently, this eliminates the need forscramblers, subscriber management systems, and EPG generators, etc., thereby reducing the cable television company's required capital investment. The system comprises MPEG2 multiplexers, QAM modulators, NIT controllers, and STBs, and supports simpleGUI-based operation. The system has been designed to promote the growth of digital cable television systems.
