NSF: Peer reviews peer-review process

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is the largest investor in nonmedical academic research in the nation. Created in 1950, NSF is a U.S. federal government agency, funded by taxpayers, whose mission is "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity and welfare; to secure the national defense." By investing in basic and applied research in the sciences and engineering, mostly in academia, it has served as a catalyst for economic growth and facilitated societal well-being. It has enabled the discovery of new knowledge and spearheaded innovations that have helped shape the economic and social fabric of the United States. Together with the National Institutes of Health, the NSF has enabled the United States to become a world leader in scientific innovation and advancement.
