With its bleached white walls and terracotta roof, this house in Auckland's eastern suburbs is not simply a nod to Spanish aesthetics. The home of Peruvian-born Carla Gutierrez and her Middle Eastern husband Eddie Hania was inspired by Hacienda La Colpa on the outskirts of Cajamarca, Peru, which belongs to Carla's grandfather. A place of many happy family memories, says Carla, the key design elements are the white house with a red roof, the numerous archways, and plenty of space for family and friends.
