The French Revolution brought more with it than the guillotine and the storming of the Bastille prison. It spread worldwide adoption of the then-revolutionary metric system, and that unification of measurements changed the world. And how the French revolutionaries accomplished the adoption of the metric system is an interesting story in itself, with lessons for the US today.
