This month marks the 230th anniversary of the ratification of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress.The Congress had appointed a committee of John Adams,Benjamin Franklin,Thomas Jefferson,Robert Livingston and Roger Sherman to draft the declaration.The committee,in turn,delegated the task to Jefferson.Jefferson's draft,with minor modifications by Adams and Franklin,was presented to the full Congress and accepted - after removing a denunciation of the slave trade and language attacking the English people and parliament.
