Anxiety, depression and quality of life in caregivers of palliative cancer patients

The role of family caregivers in the provision of palliative care is a significant area of research because of the importance associated with the care they provide and for its impact on the patient. Although the responsibilty often comes at an emotional cost to the caregiver.Family caregivers often show high levels of psychological distress especially at the end of life. They also play an important role in palliative care and as a result some have a significantly lower quality of life and experience more somatic symptoms than those caring for a relative with curative cancer. This research focused on the psychosocial issues associated with the experiences of family caregivers caring for palliative cancer patients before and after the patient's death.
