摘要

The uncertainty and threats posed by global warming, natural disasters, economic instability and conflict leading to displaced people living in refugee camps increasingly makes preparing for humanitarian disasters an important consideration for palliative care policy makers and service providers. At the time of writing this editorial, Hurricane Dorian, the second strongest storm on record in the Atlantic, has hit the Bahamas and is moving closer to the US mainland, causing parts of Florida to be evacuated, while Georgia and the Carolinas brace for flooding. Despite the fact that this natural disaster has occurred in one of the world's most wealthy nations, it still has the potential to rapidly turn into a humanitarian disaster.
