FORMULATION OF GEL CONTAINING PSIDIUMQUA JAVA LEAVES EXTRACTS TO DETERMINE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY ACTIVITY

Psidium guajava Linn (Myrtaceae) has been used as traditional medicine. Due to no molecular pharmacological evidence of this herbal plant, we investigated the anti- inflammatory activity. Quercetin was taken as marker, an anti-inflammatory component which is major phytoconstituent of psidium guajava leaves. The comparative study of hydroalcoholic and methanolic extract of Psidium guajava leaves was carried out to evaluate anti-inflammatory activity. The major findings of the study demonstrated the anti-inflammatory activity potential of Psidium guajava leaves extract gel formulation. Hydoalcoholic extract gel is more effective as compared with methanolic extract gel. The P value is < 0.0001 is considered as extremely significant by applying ANOVA test followed by Dunnett test. From the results it was concluded that psidium guajava leaves extract when formulated in gel show significant anti-inflammatory activity and hydoalcoholic extract gel is more effective as compared with methanolic extract gel.
