The Fertiliser Association of India-Eastern Region(FAI-ER)organized a Fertilizer Orientation Course at the School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development(SASRD),Medziphema,Nagaland on 11th May 2019.The programme was inaugurated by Dr.A.K.Makar,Dean,SASRD.Mr.S.Narayanan,Director(Marketing),SPIC and Greenstar Fertilizers Ltd.,Chennai and Mr.Kivikhu Achumi,Additional Director of Agriculture,Government of Nagaland,Kohima were the guests of honour.One hundred twenty two students attended the programme.In his inaugural address,Dr.Makar said that soil is a living and life-giving natural resource.As world population and food production demands rise,keeping our soil healthy and productive is of paramount importance.Using soil health principles and systems that include no-till,cover cropping and diverse rotations,more and more farmers are actually increasing their soil's organic matter and improving microbial activity.As a result,farmers are sequestering more carbon,increasing water infiltration,etc.,while harvesting better profits and often better yields.He requested all the students to be very attentive during the programme and get enlightened on variety of topics which are not taught in the college course curriculum.This is a rare opportunity provided by FAI for the benefit of the students.He further added that students participating in the programme will be in an advantageous position while facing job interviews especially in agri-input industry.He thanked FAI for selecting SASRD campus located in a remote corner of the country for the course.
