The Self-Healing Capacity of Bees

Although most beekeepers endeavour with might and main to prevent their colonies from swarming, Dr Wolfgang Ritter's work has led him to say: 'Swarming Bees are Healthy Bees!' He suggests that the survival of feral colonies, in spite of the Varroa mite, confirms that the system of swarming enables the bees to 'self-heal' their colonies, and he outlines the ways in which this occurs.
