Coated end mills for hard milling

Asupplier of endmills for the mold and die industry, U.S. Union Tool Inc., Buena Park, Calif., has developed the Hard Max coating for hard milling applications. The new coating is primarily for milling materials from 55 to 65 HRC and can be used when cutting materials such H-13 steel or P/M steel. Heat is a crucial factor in hard milling, and trials to measure the new coating's ability under extreme milling conditions that generate high temperature showed it retained hardness beyond a conventional TiAlN-coated tool by more than 200 deg C.
