IEEJ Outlook for FY2019: Fuel Oil Sales Will Drop 7 Years in Row

The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) released the economic energy outlook for FY2019 (April 2019- March 2020) and predicted in the report that Japan’s fuel oils sales volume would drop 4% in FY2018 and drop 0.6% in FY2019 compared to the previous fiscal years. In FY2018, the decrease would be triggered by a significant drop in heavy oil B/C section (estimated to drop 23.7% from FY2017) due to a decline in utilization of coal-fired plants, decrease in gasoline sales (down 1.2%) because of spreading fuel-efficient vehicles, and decrease in naphtha sales (down 4.6%) caused by scheduled maintenance of ethylene plants, predicted IEEJ.
