Metallurgical Coal Market Has Risen Sharply since Entering 2020

The spot export market for metallurgical coal in the Asian region has risen sharply since entering the year 2020. In fact, the spot export price (FOB: US$/MT) of premium hard coking coal which was around US$133 in late December now has risen to the range of US$144 to US$145. The reason why the spot export market for metallurgical coal has rebounded is because multiple spot buyers in China and India have resumed the spot import of hard coking coal from Australia prior to the new year. When the spot import of hard coking coal by the spot buyers in both countries becomes activated, the spot export market for metallurgical coal will rise furthermore.
