Summer in the Wellington region was punctuated by a very wet January, especiallyin the Wairarapa where some areas received up to five times their normal monthlyrainfall. The after-effects of the wet January are still being felt in the Wairarapa,with above average rainfall in the year to date and unusually elevated soil moisturelevels throughout much of February and March. Irrigators have not been workingas hard as usual and river levels have, for the most part, been maintained abovemanagement thresholds.
