Hydrogen DRI only way to significantly cut steel emissions: Midrex

London—Iron technology provider Midrex expects direct reduction iron (DRI) using hydrogen to be the only viable way for the steel industry to meet the Paris Agreement to cut carbon emissions. Producing DRI and using an electric arc furnace running on hydrogen and renewable electricity is viewed as proven technology for making large contributions to carbon emissions cuts, Midrex general manager for business development, Vincent Chevrier, said in an AIST webinar on June 9. "Advances in green energy generation and synergies with hydrogen generation can be a game changer for the steel industry," said the Midrex presentation for the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST).
