JSW 2019 met coal sales fall on lower EU steel output

Warsaw—Poland-based Jastrzebska Spolka Weglowa (JSW), Europe’s largest coking coal producer, said late Thursday its 2019 coking production and sales fell 1.4% and 3% respectively in the face of declining steel production and prices in the EU. “The company had to face a deteriorating macroeconomic environment. We entered a clear slowdown phase on the core markets for our business, the coal and coke markets,” JSW’s CEO Wlodzimierz Herezniak said in a letter to shareholders.
