S Korea May ferrous scrap imports drop 22%

Singapore—South Korea’s ferrous scrap imports continued to decline in May, with volumes seeing a 22% fall from April, latest customs figures showed. May's import volumes stood at 341,122 mt, a 42% contraction from the same period in 2019. The largest origin source still remained Japan, at 259,569 mt, sliding 6.4% from April, while Russian volumes came in thereafter at 40,093 mt, similarly down 6%. US origin volumes contracted strongly by 81% on the month to only 18,742 mt in May.
