Pittsburgh—Scrap prices continued to firm in the US as most September buying took place Sept. 3 and 4. "I think for what people are buying and selling now it's up $50/lt," said a Midwest supplier. He said the initial up $40/lt on shred, up $30/lt on cut grades and up $20/lt on prime grades that kicked off trading in Detroit was no longer available. "It has been a very busy week. Suppliers get what they ask for. Mills have strong order books so they have been aggressive, getting what they needed was priority over the price," said one Ohio Valley source.
