Mexican HRC surges Peso 1,000/mt on tight supply, demand recovery

Mexico City—Mexican domestic hot-rolled coil prices surged Peso 1,000/mt while domestic cold-rolled coil was up Peso 500/mt on Sept. 1, supported by limited supply as mills lowered production amid demand recovery. The flat steel market registered greater trade activity with demand ramping up as distributors increased their purchasing amid the gradual recovery in economic activity. According to sources, some construction projects related to the automotive industry, food and logistics has started to reactivate. However, concerns over tight supply persist as lead times were expanded.
