Rio Tinto cuts 2019 iron ore shipment forecast

London—Mining giant Rio Tinto Wednesday cut its full-year iron ore shipments guidance to between 320 million-330 million mt from Western Australia’s Pilbara region, down around 4% from the midpoint of earlier guidance on weaker production levels and qualities. Pilbara shipments on a 100% ownership basis for 2019 were revised from earlier guidance of 333 million-343 million mt. The company shipped 338.2 million mt from the Pilbara in 2018, and produced just below the level.
