Brazilian ethanol producers could be set for a bonanza over the coming decade after a report released by the European Union last week identified ethanol produced from Brazilian sugarcane as the most benign of the so-called first-generation biofuels, with greenhouse gas savings of 90% versus gasoline. The EU's minimum savings target is 35% in 2009, rising to 50% in 2017.
