Canada has been a net importer of zinc concentrate since mid-2013. This coincided with the closure of Brunswick and Perseverance as well as notably weaker output at Kidd Creek. We estimate that Canadian zinc-in-concentrate production fell by 44% (or 135,000t) year-on-year in July-December. Net imports of zinc in concentrate in those six months totalled 122,000t, compared with net exports of 19,000t a year earlier. This transition stemmed from imports increasing by 47,000t but a decrease in exports of 95,000t was a much more significant contributor.
