摘要

Medicine, like all disciplines, sometimes has to look back before looking forward again. This review is exactly that, one which looks back, to see potential trends that can be used for future planning and perspective. This review, which is an update of the authors' 2009 article, only includes Medicare beneficiaries and shows a relatively stable number of incontinence procedures performed over the previous period. The other findings include an increased number of slings performed with a corresponding decrease in the number of Burch procedures. Lastly, this article shows an increase in the number of ambulatory surgery center procedures. As useful as these data may be, other articles also exist that give data regarding other trends.
