West Coast port problems to persist in U.S. as Canadian ports expand using U.S. coal company dollars

While U.S. coal producers struggle to establish new coal terminals in the Pacific Northwest, Canadian ports are breezing along with plans to add 28 million tonnes of new capacity at existing facilities during the next three years. Ironically, the expansions are being funded, in large part, by U.S. coal. "U.S. coal has been good to us," Denis Horgan, vice president and general manager of Westshore Terminals said. "Westshore shipped 8.2 million tonnes of U.S. coal last year, and we expect to ship about the same amount this year."
