Singapore-ConocoPhillips and Hess are pull- ing out of upstream shale blocks onshore China, the companies announced last week in separate filings to the US Securities and Exchange Commission. ConocoPhillips said it was informed in February last year that the Qijiang shale gas block it entered in 2012 “had been declared a military exclusion zone and would not be open for foreign cooperation.”
