MEG Energy doubles crude unit train loadings in Q2

Calgary—Canada’s MEG Energy shipped 33 unit trains in the second quarter of 2014 to refineries in the US Midwest and Gulf Coast to handle record oil sands output in Alberta, CEO Bill McCaffrey said Wednesday. Each unit train has a capacity of about 60,000 barrels, and in the first quarter the company shipped its diluted bitumen utilizing 17 trains that were loaded at the Bruderheim terminal near Edmonton, he said on an earnings call. The terminal is owned and operated by Canadian independent train loader Canexus Corp., which is shipping Access Western Blend to refineries in the US and Eastern Canada. Known as the North American Terminal Operations, the loading and dispatch facility is serviced by both Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railway.
