Canadian explorer Tethys sees big Tajikistan potential

London—Canadian explorer Tethys Petroleum said December 2 it plans to increase its stake in the Bokhtar production sharing contract in Tajikistan, one of its key assets that the company believes holds resources of more than 1 billion barrels of oil equivalent. Tajikistan is mostly unexplored and currently has neglible oil and gas production, but Tethys believes it may contain the same stratigraphic horizons as nearby oil- and gasrich Turkmenistan.
