Alberta in deals for upgrader, CO2 pipeline

Calgary-The Alberta government signed February 16 two agreements covering the construction of a 150,000 b/d bitumen upgrader in the industrial heartland area of Edmonton and the laying of a carbon capture pipeline to serve conventional oil fields in the adjoining areas of the Canadian province. The first deal will entail the supply of 37,500 b/d of feedstock bitumen, which the provincial government receives under its bitumen royalty-in-kind (BRIK) program, to a joint venture of North West Upgrading and Canadian Natural Resources.
