Mexico upstream project may be reviewed

Mexico City-The independent watchdogs of Pemex set up by last year's energy reform are preparing to flex their muscles over the state company's flagship Chicontepec upstream project in which billions of dollars have been invested with so far only a meager return. Chicontepec covers 3,800 square kilometers onshore, mainly in the southern Gulf state of Veracruz. Pemex reckons it holds possible reserves of some 17.7 billion barrels of oil equivalent, almost 40% of Mexico's total proved, probable and potential reserves (3P).
