Lundin Spuds Malaysia Well

Sweden's Lundin Petroleum has spudded the Batu Hitam-1 well offshore peninsular Malaysia. The well, in Block PM308A, is the third it has drilled in the country this year, following two successful wildcats offshore Sabah (IOD Aug.5'11). Batu Hitam-1 will test the hydrocarbon potential of a large basement high structure in the eastern part of the block. The objectives are Oligocene sandstones in a four-way dip closure and fractured pre-Tertiary basement in the underlying horst block. The planned total depth is 2,450 meters subsea; the well will be drilled using the Offshore Courageous jack-up rig.
