China Gas Imports Soar

Chinese LNG and pipeline gas imports both rose in April, according to figures released Tuesday by the General Administration of Customs. Piped natural gas from Turkmenistan -China's sole piped gas supplier -spiked by 374% year-on-year to 1.43 Bcf/d. In the first four months of the year, pipeline imports averaged 1.1 Bcf/d, a 400% surge on last year. China reached agreement with Turkmenistan in March to bump up imports to 1.9 Bcf/d by 2015 (IOD Mar.4,p4).
