Asia Looks to LNG

Southeast Asian ministers affirmed Mon- day the importance of upstream develop- ment and the use of LNG to meet the re- gion's energy needs. The Philippines will award 15 new service contracts to develop oil and "particularly gas," Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras told a Singapore conference. Malaysia, mean- while, pledged to "do all that's needed to get oil and gas, and this includes working on marginal fields thoroughly using EOR [en- hanced oil recovery] technology," Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Idris Jala said.
