CNPC Starts CBM Field

State China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) has started operations at what is billed as China's biggest integrated demonstration coalbed methane (CBM) project, Xinhua news agency reported Tuesday. CBM from the Qinshui Basin is being developed by PetroChina Huabei Oilfield Co. and will be fed into the cross-country West-East gas pipeline and blended with conventional natural gas being pumped from China's western Xinjiang province. According to Xinhua, 550 Mcm/d (19.4 MMcf/d) of CBM is being produced from more than 700 wells. Huabei controls 847 Bcm of reserves in the Qinshui Basin, 100 Bcm of them in the Fan Zhuang and Cheng Zhuang fields.
