New guidelines for authors

This month's issue begins Volume 88 of the journal and includes an updated version of the Instructions to Authors - this provides a special opportunity to discuss the value of that perpetually evolving and increasingly important document. The document is indeed directed to authors and is intended to assist authors, but their use of these instructions should be valuable to the reviewers and the readers too. An overarching goal is that readers should be able to assume that the published articles that you find in this journal will be consistent with the best contemporary standards for reporting research results. Because readers of Contraception come from many disciplines, each of us will look at research papers in areas where we do not have the specific background to assess the methods and analytic approach of the paper.
