The purpose of this investigation is to develop testing methods to evaluate dental metallic materials that are exposed in mouth to the combined attack of microbe corrosion and mechanical forces. The teeth meeting were simulated by the combination of a flat metal plate (specimen) and a ceramic sphere (Al_2O_3). Repeated load was applied through the sphere to the specimen to produce an indentation on the surface whose diameter is related the decrease in tooth height. The diameter increased as an exponential function of loading frequency, which suggests that the deformation was caused by dislocations within the metal. The test results obtained in a 3 percent NaCl solution are considered to show well the characteristic behavior of metallic materials that are exposed to the combined attack of wear and corrosion. Basing on the obtained results, a new test method for the dental materials is proposed.
