GEOTECTONIC MAP OF EAST AND SOUTHEAST ASIA: SHEETS 1, 2, 3, and 8; Second Product of the CCOP-CPCEMR Geotectonic Map Project

The present electronic map, contained in the accompanied CD, is designed to provide basic tectonic information of East and Southeast Asia. It does not give personal tectonic interpretations of the authors, unlike conventional tectonic maps. All necessary tectonic information is shown on the map; so readers can obtain quickly tectonic data from the map, without referring to the explanatory notes. The map has the characteristics as follows. 1. This is the second issue of the Geotectonic Map of East and Southeast Asia. It contains tectonic maps covering the sheets 1, 2, 3, and 8 of the CCOP Resources Assessment Programme (West Pacific Region south of Shikhote Alin and north of Sumatra, except the Philippines). The first issue including sheets 4, 5 and 6 was published already in 2000. 2. The map includes basic tectonic information such as tectonic provinces, major tectonic domains (continental, oceanic and continental margin), tectonic nature of the map units (age of constituent units, age and nature of tectonic deformations), structural features like faults and fold trends, types of igneous rocks, sediment isopachs, sedimentary basins, volcanoes, paleomagnetic anomalies, earthquake epicenters, and many others. 3. These tectonic features are shown on the map by different patterns and colors, so that readers can get necessary tectonic information directly from the map. 4. A kind of tectonic features is described on a specific layer. Readers can see any combinations of tectonic features on screen by selecting the corresponding layers and/or groups of layers. 5. The maps are written mostly in vector format. Zoom-ins and-outs do not alter the picture quality. 6. Everything starts from the Home Window. This window leads you to Sheet Maps, Overview Map, Explanatory Notes, Legends and TNTatlas Guide by clicking appropriate buttons. 7. Overview Map gives you a general map of the region. It contains also the distribution of earthquake epicenters, active volcanoes and major cities Readers can jump to the Time/space plots of the sheets by clicking inside the corresponding sheet frames. Topographic profiles can be seen along any lines by using the automatic profiling tool. 8. On-lone Explanatory Notes, Legends and User's Manual of the browser are also available.
