Novel insulin delivery systems

Tnsulin use is now more than 90 years old, but in spite of advances in the type of insulin, the injectable method remains the most common form of insulin administration. Most physicians would agree that this remains one of the most important barriers in initiating insulin therapy mostly because of the fear of pain involved. Advances in the injectable methods from syringes to pens have been of some help. Insulin pumps have reduced the number of injections but remain expensive. In this article we will discuss the other novel modalities, which are being pursued in insulin delivery.
