An inexpensive detection scheme for probe beam deflection in photothermal deflection spectroscopy

The detection of probe beam deflection in photothermal deflection spectroscopy experiment is achieved using two desecrate photodetectors in combination with an optical arrangement. The arrangement can be used to monitor both the normal and tangential deflection. The usefulness of the set up for the measurement of thermal diffusivity and optical absorption is demonstrated.
