The International Labour Organizations Maritime Labour Convention - 2006 (ILO - MLC 2006)

The maritime labour convention (MLC), the first maritime session of international labour conference (ILO), held in the month of February 2006, has outlined the rights, privilages and certified quality of working life for a huge number of seafarers all over the world. The convention also aimed to prevent unfair competition among different shipowners. Keeping in view the current maritime labour standards, the paper clearly states the objectives of the convention, global references on the maritime labour issues and number of benefits derived by different sectors from the convention. The paper is concluded with a proposed structure of new convention with details of titles and new approach to enforcement.
