As sapota is an evergreen tree producing several vegetative and floral flushes during the year and consequently the fruits, it requires substantial amount of nutrients for maximizing yield and quality. However, incipient deficiency or hidden hunger causes considerable damage to sapota crop resulting in economic losses. Hence, its nutrient requirements have to be carefully monitored for higher productivity through leaf analysis. Comprehensive leaf nutrient diagnostic norms and information on interactions among different nutrients are not available for sapota. Several approaches are being adopted for developing leaf nutrient diagnostic norms and identification of nutrient imbalance, the recent being Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND) (Parent and Dafir 1992). The present investigation was, therefore, carried out to develop multivariate diagnostic norms for sapota using Compositional Nutrient Diagnosis (CND). A nutrient interaction among different nutrients was studied by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). The CND technique expands the DRIS concept, which is a dual ratio concept to a multi-dimensional concept.
