Factors Dominating Choice of Surgical Specialty among Foreign Medical Graduates.

I read with great interest the article by Reed and colleagues1 regarding the factors influencing surgical residents to choose their subspecialty. I am a midlevel surgery resident and I have not yet decided which way to go. Being a foreign medical graduate (FMG) I can identify with a few other factors influencing the final choice of subspecialty. Since FMGs constitute about a quarter of U.S. physicians2 it is important to look into the factors affecting their choices.
