Abhe & Svoboda Awarded Champ Clark Bridge Rehabilitation

The Missouri and Illinois Departments of Transportation awarded a contract of us4,984,770 to Abhe & Svoboda,Inc.(Prior Lake,MM) to rehabilitate the Champ Clark Bridge on US 54 over the Mississippi River.The five-span,2,286-foot-long through-truss bridge was constructed in 1928 and last recoated in 1983.The rehabilitation involves recoating structural steel and concrete surfaces as well as replacing deteriorated structural steel and repairing various bridge components.The steel surfaces will be prepared to Commercial blast cleaning (SSPC-SP 6) and power-tool cleaning (SSPC-SP 3) and recoated with a three-coat calcium sulfonate system.The existing coatings contain lead,necessitating containment.The contract also includes applying a urethane protective coating to concrete pier surfaces.
