Leber hereditary optic neuropathy mimicking thyroid-related optic neuropathy

We read with great interest the article "Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy Mimicking Neuromyelitis Optica" by McClellend et al (1). We recently evaluated a similar patient with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy whose symptoms were initially suggestive of dysthyroid optic neuropathy and whose older age and optic nerve enhancement on MRI resulted in extensive testing for neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and other etiologies that delayed diagnosis.
