WVU Researchers Work to Improve Mine Safety

West Virginia University researchers have developed and tested a sensor they say will improve surface mining safety by using proximity warnings and distraction monitoring to alert workers. Due to the number and severity of injuries associated with ultra-heavy equipment use, the group, made up of WVU faculty and students, designed, built and tested the integrated sensing and communication system to improve reaction time of drivers who operate the slow machinery.
