U.S. domestic market places producers under tremendous pressure

U.S. coal producers are under a tremendous amount of pressure, particularly producers in Central Appalachia. Demand on the domestic utility market has collapsed to unheard of levels due to the rising prominence of natural gas fired generation, and a mild winter. "The real challenge we have today is that there is no market," Joe Craft, CEO of Alliance Resource Partners, said during a recent speech at the New York Trade Association.
