Creative economies, creative cities: Asian–European perspectives

Prior to receiving this book to review, and reflecting on the title and my knowledge of the editors’ work, I was confident that this volume was going to offer a timely theoretical and empirical advance to our understanding of the geographies of creative/cultural industries/ creativity by developing transnational and cross-cultural perspectives. Indeed, the back cover claims that this book is going to address ‘the very real differences and ambiguities at play when such policy discourses move between historically distinct regions. By offering both Asian and European experiences this volume shows the differences between them,and thus allows meaningful comparisons’.However, while there are a few ‘stand out’chapters, I am not convinced that the stated aims of the book have been achieved.
