Steam coal output rises, coking coal falls at Xstrata

Xstrata mined 90.4 mt of coal in 2012, up by 7% year-on-year, of which 79.7 mt was shipped to consumers (up 14%). Sales of the Australian operations were 6.9 mt of hard coking coal (9% less than in 2011) at an average price of $198.1/t FOB, 4.3 mt of semi-soft coal at $158.6/t FOB and 43.8 mt of steam coal (7% more) at $101.9/t FOB. South African mines marketed 13.1 mt of steam coal (up 16%) at $100.3/t FOB.
